Following on from the success of last year’s Ocean Film Festival, the Banff Mountain Film Festival is coming back to Wales.

It will offer a series of films that will undoubtedly leave the audience in awe of the on-screen heroes and the inspired connections they create with the natural world.

If you held your breath for the deep dive of Ocean Film Festival then you’re probably going to release it in an exhilarating scream for the topographical extremes of the Banff Film Festival.

We here at Nation.Cymru have tickets to give away to one of the two screenings at Venue Cymru, Llandudno.

All you need to do to win a pair of tickets for the chance at seeing one of the screenings (1st March or 6th April) is to respond under this post, on Twitter or Facebook.

Be warned – this trailer may make you want to Base Jump from your house just for a snatch of adrenalin. Save it for the Festival, please.

The global tour landed in the UK in January but will have been seen in 60 venues by its close in May. This is the 10th anniversary of the festival touring the UK.

Tour director Nell Teasdale said, “We’re thrilled to have reached 10 years of bringing the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour to the UK and Ireland – and what better way to celebrate than with the latest dose of cutting-edge adventure films from the world’s most prestigious mountain festival!

“We guarantee that the anniversary atmosphere at the shows will be buzzing – and that audiences will go home inspired to have an adventure of their own as well.”

Films in the World Tour are selected from hundreds entered into the Banff Mountain Film Festival, which takes place every November in Canada’s Rocky Mountains.

This Mountain Life

Film highlights include:

This Mountain Life – Martina and her 60-year-old mother Tania embark on an epic ski traverse from Vancouver to Alaska – six months and 2,300km of journeying though relentless mountain wilderness. This Mountain Life is a multi-award-winning film and a riveting portrait of the human passion for adventure, set high in the peaks of British Columbia, Canada.

RJ Ripper – A mesmerising blend of mountain sports and culture as world class mountain biker Rajesh (RJ) Magar explores his homeland of Nepal, from the chaotic streets of Kathmandu to the mind-blowing Himalayan mountains beyond. An inspirational story of perseverance with high-adrenaline riding in stunning scenery.

For the Love of Mary – Try telling 97-year-old George Etzweiler you’re too old for running! He started competing in the annual 7.6 mile race up Mount Washington aged 69… and still takes part nearly 30 years later. And more important than his lucky green running shorts, George carries something special in every step: the memory of his late wife of 68 years, Mary.
