Cardigan town councillors have said that they are considering ways to honour two musician sons of the town who died recently.

A gig at Cardigan Castle and a mural could be organised to remember Dave Datblygu and Wyn Fflach, who both died late last month.

David R. Edwards, who died age 56 in Carmarthen, was best known as the lead singer of the Welsh language punk band Datblygu, while Wyn Lewis Jones, who died aged 61 in Blaenffos, established rock outfit Ail Symudiad with his brother Richard.

At a meeting of Cardigan councillors, they said that three ideas were being explored – including a memorial plaque, mural and a memorial concert – possibly within the grounds of Cardigan Castle.

“It was sad to say farewell to two shining characters from Cardigan,” Cllr John Adams-Lewis said in a meeting reported by the Tivyside Advertiser. “Both were ex-pupils of mine.

“Wyn had been a member of this council since 2017, but had served his first term as councillor back in 1997.

“His main interest was always music and losing such a character is a great loss.”

Cllr Adams-Lewis said that he was “grateful to have known both of them” and that his “sympathies go to the two families in their loss”.

“We as a council should do something to honour a pair of musicians who have helped put Cardigan on the map.”

Cllr Steffan Morgan and Cllr Richard Jones were already exploring the possibility of holding just such an event – possibly within the grounds of Cardigan Castle.

The possibilities of a memorial plaque or mural would be discussed in more detail at a future meeting, they said.
