Catherine Zeta-Jones to play Morticia in Wednesday Addams Netflix series

Catherine Zeta-Jones will play Morticia in the upcoming Wednesday Addams series on Netflix.

The 51-year-old Oscar winner, who hails from Swansea, has been cast as the iconic matriarch in the eight-episode series alongside Jenna Ortega and Luis Guzmán.

Ortega will star as Wednesday and Guzmán will play Gomez Addams, Morticia’s husband.

The reboot of the 1991 film The Addams Family will be directed by gothic fantasy supremo Tim Burton, and will follow the character of Wednesday Addams’ during her school years as a student at Nevermore Academy.

In the supernatural mystery-comedy she will have to learn how to control her emerging psychic abilities.

She will also combat a killing spree that has terrorized the local town as well as solve a mystery that involved her parents some 25 years ago.

The new series has been written by “Smallville” creators Al Gough and Miles Millar.

In a recent tweet, Netflix wrote: “Our Addams family is expanding! Catherine Zeta-Jones will step into the iconic silhouette of Morticia Addams while Luis Guzmán will bring to life the debonair Gomez Addams in the upcoming TV series Wednesday, starring Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams and directed by Tim Burton.”

Other actresses who have stepped into the shoes of Morticia include Anjelica Huston, Charlize Theron, Daryl Hannah and Carolyn Jones.
