New event aims to celebrate the diversity of Welsh magazines

Digital arts and culture platform AM has announced it will be hosting a two-day celebration of Welsh magazines later this month.

PRINT, which is being staged in conjunction with the Book Council of Wales, will take place over the weekend of 27-28 March and features titles including Cylchgrawn Cara, New Welsh Review, O’r Pedwar Gwynt, Llen Natur, Golwg, Wales Art Review, Lingo Newydd, WCW a’i ffrindiau, Y Cymru Planet Magazine, Llafar Gwlad, Y Wawr, Poetry Wales, Welsh Agenda, Cylchgronau’r Urdd – Cip, Bore Da, IAW, Cristion and Lucent Dreaming.

The event will reflect the diversity of magazines in Wales and includes special digital features as well as opportunities to subscribe to and support the publications.

After the weekend PRINT will become a permanent channel on AM as a one-stop shop to subscribe to any of the Welsh magazines featured.

‘Integral’

“Unlike books, there is rarely an opportunity to celebrate the Welsh magazines that are such an integral part of our culture and civic life. Even in the age of social media, magazines have a key role in stimulating discussion and developing space for ideas,” Arwel Jones, Head of Publishing Grants for Book Council of Wales said.

“It has been a challenging year to continue to produce magazines let alone sell them, but through the challenging times there are opportunities to reach new audiences,” Siân Powell from Cwmni Golwg added.

“In a time where independent voices and independent journalism are becoming more important than ever before to scrutinise, entertain and inspire – PRINT is very timely.

“Hopefully, AM’s audience will enjoy browsing the wealth of magazines available in Wales and discover something new”.

AM, Wales’ first cultural digital platform, was launched last year just before the pandemic struck in March. Since then over 4,500 pieces of content have been uploaded and it has attracted an audience  over 100,000 people to over 230 channels on the platform.

PRINT will be available on the website and the AM app can be downloaded from Apple Stores and Google Play.
