The brilliant sights and sounds of Wales fans as the Red Wall returns

So it wasn’t the result that anyone wanted or expected.

In fact you’d be hard pressed to witness a more frustrating game.

But one thing we can all agree on is how fantastic it was to see the Red Wall return to the Cardiff City Stadium.

The build up to the hugely anticipated game saw the Welsh Football Fans for Independence group hold its first march in almost two years.

Hundreds turned up for the pro-independence march gathering in Womanby Street in the city centre before making their way to the stadium making for a noisy and colourful parade.

Welsh Football Fans for Independence describes itself as “a group for Welsh fans that support independence for our country, as well as for our football team.”

Previous marches organised by the group have attracted hundreds of fans.

Inside the ground, the pre-match entertainment underneath the Canton Stand made for added joy given how long fans had been away. Machynlleth brass band and Welsh super fans The Pumpers soundtracked a selection of classic songs, including this solid gold tribute to Chris Gunter.

The anthem was as loud, proud and spine tingling as ever – how much have we missed the magnificent sound of fans belting out Mae Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau.

There was also a beautiful touch on 52 minutes when a minutes applause broke out in memory of former Wales boss Gary Speed, who would have celebrated his 52nd birthday yesterday.

We can all feel disappointed about the result but off the pitch the performance was everything you could have asked of the Red Wall.

It could’ve been an even better anthem rendition as thousands stuck outside in big lines due to poor organisation!

This is a nice article. It was nice for everyone to be back. But I am a bit confused why it doesn’t mention the definite story of the night – the chaos with the tickets to get in.

The pre match atmosphere would have been even better if half of us weren’t stuck outside until 10 minutes into the first half!
