Watch: Owain Glyndŵr flag features in new I’m a Celebrity teaser
The flag of Owain Glyndŵr, who led Wales in a war of independence, features in the latest trailer to I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here.
The short teaser shows a knight in armour and riding on a horse carrying the historic flag across the uplands of Wales.
The lion on red and gold was carried into battle during the rebellion against the English, with the aim of demonstrating Glyndŵr’s lineage from the princes of Gwynedd who had previously united Wales.
It is similar in design to the flag of Llewelyn ap Gruffydd was the last prince of Wales before Owain Glyndŵr’s declaration in 1400.
I’m a Celebrity will once again be filmed at Gwrych Castle near Abergele in November after continued Covid restrictions ruled out a return to Australia.

Those said to be taking part currently include presenter Richard Madeley, former Strictly judge Arlene Phillips, soap actor Adam Woodyatt, Corrie star Simon Gregson and gold medal Olympian Tom Daley.

The princes of Gwynedd did not unite Wales. The principality of Wales occupied at most about 2/3rds of the country, excluding south Wales which was divided into Marcher Lordships.
Glyndwr did though.

I thoroughly recommend reading Dr Gideon Brough’s biography of Glyndwr. It is an excellent work, extremely readable and makes it plain that the Glyndwr rising was far more substantial, lasted much longer and was far more successful than is usually understood.
Would be good if they could trail the feature with a song from the operatic musical ‘Y mab darogan’ which was staged at a National Eisteddfod in 1981, toured Wales for months afterwards and recorded an LP! The song was called ‘Ie Glyndwr’. It was the story of Owain Glyndwr.
It’s amazing to see the Owain Glyndŵr 4 Lions Rampant flag being carried by a knight in gallop on horseback in the ‘I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here’ Programme advert for the upcoming new series. Well done to ITV, more than the BBC has ever done to promote our greatest of heroic medieval heroes and our true Cymric flag.
