Watch: Welsh features in new I’m A Celebrity trailer as contestant says he’s been learning the language

23 Oct 2021 2 minute read

The Welsh language and Welsh flag feature in a new trailer for I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here.

The trailer shows Ant & Dec dressed as knights raising the Welsh flag above Gwrych Castle near Abergele.

It also features some use of Welsh, including the words ‘Rhywle yng Nghymru’.

It comes after Good Morning Britain’s Richard Madeley let the cat out of the bag and confirmed that he’d be appearing on the show – and learning the language.

“You may say, ‘I couldn’t possibly comment’,” he noted, before adding: “It’s ridiculous! When a secret’s out, it’s out! And it is true that I’ve been learning a bit of Welsh.”

Use of Welsh in the I’m a Celebrity trailer

A previous trailer showed Ant holding the flag of Owain Glyndŵr, who led Wales in a war of independence, across the uplands of the south of Wales.

This trailer shows the two presenters – Ant riding a horse and Dec a portly pony –  preparing Gwrych Castle for the arrival of the celebrities by hoisting a Welsh flag.

Those said to be taking part also include former Strictly judge Arlene Phillips, soap actor Adam Woodyatt, Corrie star Simon Gregson and gold medal Olympian Tom Daley.

The series is staying in Wales for a second year after Covid-19 restrictions meant that the film crew couldn’t travel to New South Wales in Australia.

Dr Mark Baker, Chair of the Gwrych Castle Preservation Trust said: “I’m absolutely delighted that I’m A Celebrity has chosen Gwrych Castle to be its UK location for the 2021 series.

“Gwrych Castle is a beautiful grade I listed historic house and a must-see destination for tourists visiting Wales. I’m A Celebrity being here will really help support its ongoing restoration as well as giving the region a much-needed economic boost. We are all very excited to be working with the team again.”
