12-15 year olds in Wales to get single Covid jab
Healthy 12-15 year olds in Wales will receive a single Pfizer jab against Covid-19, the country’s Chief Medical Officer has recommended.
The Chief Medical Officers of Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and England announced the joint decision today.
They said that vaccinating children would provide a “sufficient extra advantage” in slowing the spread of the virus over the winter, although it was difficult to quantify how much.
On Friday the First Minister, Mark Drakeford said they were ready to crack on if that was the CMOs’ decision.
Last week, the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) said healthy children would receive only marginal health benefits from a mass vaccination campaign.
However, the JCVI said that it was not within their remit to consider the wider benefits of vaccination, such as stopping community spread. Schools are thought to have become a key source of the spread of Covid in communities.
In a statement last week, Wales’ Minister for Health and Social Services, Eluned Morgan, suggested that the abs would get the go ahead, saying that the JCVI “acknowledge that there may be wider issues to consider which are outside the remit of the JCVI to evaluate, such as wider societal impacts”.
Children with health conditions and those living with clinically vulnerable people have already been told they can get the vaccine.

There is a moral duty by parents and all citizens to protect children, young people and everyone else from any experimental Covid-19 vaccine. We have no way of knowing what potential harmful effects could result from the taking of these vaccines.
