Andrew RT Davies named on New Year’s Honours’ List
Former Welsh Conservative leader Andrew RT Davies has been named on the 2020 New Year’s Honours’ List.
He has been made a CBE “in recognition of his political and public service over many years,” the Welsh Conservatives said.
He said that to have been included in The Queen’s New Year honours list has come as a huge surprise and was very humbling.
“This is a fantastic honour and it wouldn’t have been possible without the support of my wife, children, the fantastic members of staff and Conservative party activists who I’ve had the pleasure of working with since entering the Welsh Assembly in 2007,” he said.
“It’s easily forgotten in the heat of today’s political debate that families sacrifice a huge amount when a husband and father opts for a position in public life and I’m particularly grateful for their unstinting and continuing love.
“I’m by no means done yet and this award only inspires me to continue standing up for my constituents, promoting the important causes that are closest to me, and ensure we deliver a better future for people and communities right across Wales.”
In addition to Andrew’s political career, he is a member of the Parliamentary and Assembly Rugby Team which raises money and awareness for local charities.
He is also the President of the Young Farmers, is a Life Governor of the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society, and a Welsh Delegate on the Council for the National Farmers Union (NFU). He also serves as a councillor for the Rhoose ward on the Vale of Glamorgan Council.
‘Proud’
Paul Davies AM, the Leader of the Opposition in the Welsh Parliament, said that Andrew RT Davies had been an exceptional Assembly Member.
“A proud Welshman, Andrew always wants to make sure that Wales is represented at key events, and that his constituents are always dealt with efficiently, effectively and with great understanding,” he said.
“The-then Prime Minister, Theresa May, said that, ‘Under Andrew’s leadership, the Welsh Conservatives have provided a strong opposition to Labour in Cardiff Bay and a strong voice for the people of Wales, both at home and in Westminster’.”

Not the best quality though. Cadbury used to put all their lower grade mix into that kind of product. I suppose it might be the sort of product that improves when viewed through a long time span !

For those of us whose potential is yet to be realised, whose dreams we fight for yet, such things are so alien we cannot grasp their meanings.

Congratulations to all those Welsh men and women recognized in the 2020 NY Honours’ List. However, most of the Commonwealth has ditched Imperial Honours. If Wales is to have its own honours’ system then it should be removed from the hands of politicians and “the Great and the Good” Also, if the New Wales is going to prosper and thrive then it must find ways to encourage all its citizens to go the extra mile, not simply acknowledge a select few, of whom many will have already achieved accolade in their chosen careers.
Totally meaningless from a Welsh persons point of view.
Wales needs and wants to be its own nation, to run itself and take its own decisions without asking Westminster for permission.
How would you feel if a Welsh nationalist government started running English affairs from Cardiff and overriding London ?
