Bank of England changes its logo from English flag to be ‘more inclusive’ of Wales and others

04 Mar 2022 2 minute read
The old Bank of England logo on the left and the new on the right

The Bank of England has redrawn its logo from the flag of England to the Union Jack to be “more inclusive” of Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The Bank, which recently appointed Welshman Huw Pill as its Chief Economist, has changed Britannia’s shield from the flag of St George to that of the union flag.

The bank was formed back in 1694 – when Wales was legally part of England and Scotland was yet to join the UK.

They have also removed the large pile of money sitting by her feet, and she faces the viewer rather than offering her olive branch of peace to unknown individuals to her left.

“We’ve made our Britannia symbol more inclusive,” a spokesperson for the bank said.

“Britannia is the female personification of the British Isles. She has been our symbol since we were founded in 1694. We wanted a new Britannia that reflects our current mission and values.”

Wales is the only UK nation not represented in the design of the union flag, which was adopted in 1801 to incorporate elements of the flags of England, Scotland and the red saltire of St Patrick to represent Ireland.

The union jack is about as inclusive to Cymru as is the flag of Mongolia, utter pish, and we all know it.

“Wales is the only UK nation not represented in the design of the union flag, which was adopted in 1801 to incorporate elements of the flags of England, Scotland and the red saltire of St Patrick to represent Ireland.”

That is an incorrect statement. Where is the St. Piran’s Flag, the national flag of Cornwall?

It IS a nation despite all the past efforts of English governments, British governments and the monarchy. Everyone should visit Cernyw/Kernow if only to see what the brit establishment have in mind for Cymru.

Even more reason why they were stupid to vote for brexit so decisively

I wish you luck in your fight, but I fear that until you can persuade the locals to stop voting Tory, you are fighting a losing battle, and nothing will change. Tory councils and Tory MPs only want to use Cernyw, and care nothing for the people.

The food at the Trevaskis Farm shop restaurant is quite reasonably priced and the pudding portion sizes are unbelievable. It is owned by George
Eustice’s brother, and the address given on the ballot for Eustice in the 2019 election was Trevaskis Farm.
It is an interesting fact that the primary [nominal] opponent of Vladimir Putin in the 2018 presidential election, nominated by the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, is a strawberry farmer, Pavel Grudinin.

The counting in the Russian election is not reliable in particular some of the southern regions had percentages for Putin that are clearly not consistent with a democratic election

Putting back the missing word “yet” makes all the difference for Pob’s post.

It is evidently not inclusive, but exclusive. The Union Flag symbolises the colonisation of Wales by England. If the Bank of England think that this is inclusive then they either have no concept of history, or are blatantly putting two fingers up to Wales.

Bank of England – the clue is in the name. If they announced that they would be labelling themselves Bank of the UK then that would be at least be a visible gesture to inclusivity.

They should have replaced the pile of bullion gold coins with the QE printing press.

Not only is Wales still not included, but Britannia was the name of the Roman province as far as Hadrian’s wall. To the north of that was Caledonia.

They can’t even get their symbolism right.

Perhaps a key piece of symbolism is in the removal of the coins. We need to remember that a key element of Tory political dogma is the “Small State” in which very little is provided for citizens except for police, to keep them in their place and military to protect the wealthy from other nations with colonial desires. The Bank is clearly making the point that there will be no “QE” if they can avoid it because “there is no money” all of which is just Tory lies.

Why would anyone think the bank of ENGLAND would be inclusive of Cymru.
And who but the intellectually challenged would think that sticking the Butcher’s Apron on their crest would make Cymru feel more included?
A bank that doesn’t represent us, changing a flag in their crest that doesn’t represent us, with ANOTHER flag that doesn’t represent us.

The Union flag has no Welsh representation so it cannot represent me. Quote: “The Bank of England has redrawn its logo from the flag of England to the Union Jack to be “more inclusive” of Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.” By the same logic the England football team should ditch the St Georges Cross in favour of the Union flag to be more inclusive of the rest of the UK. Believe it or not there are some unionists who think this. I actually do not have a problem with the England flag & don’t think many of us Welsh do,… Read more »

Sorry, I disagree. Put yourself in Wales shoes. Only then you can claim that England is losing its identity. It’s only a logo change. Imagine being forced to use another nation’s currency as your own.

Remember, the Bank of England still prints its own currency. It could been renamed, Bank of Britain. And all the men & women who feature on your bank notes are figures from English history.

We in Wales have no representation or that luxury, and never will unless we print our own paper currency. Think yourself lucky. Our fight goes on.

Why did they bother? Scotland is probably leaving and the Tories are doing their best to get shot of Northern Ireland so before long only the cross of that Armenian mercenary will be left.

Union flag is not inclusive of Cymru, never will be luckily. Its also not inclusive of many people, given its racist history. Just another thing flag shagged with it.

Inclusivity, lol. What the Bank of England, it’s in the name, fail to see where others more informed have pointed out. That even with this change Wales still lacks representation in their revised logo. So funny. Ignorance is bliss and the Bank of England are blissfully ignorant, it seems

And It’s high time the Welsh Government got their act together, created a Bank of Wales, then introduced our own printed & coin currency in-line with Scotland, NI, and yes, England rather than minting English & other nations coinage at the Royal Mint in Llandaff. Long overdue.

Some of these organisations just don’t have a clue and have absolutely no understanding of the history of these islands. They think that just because we have lived peacefully (we’ve had no choice, we’ve had to) we have forgotten our past and the fact we were once a free country. Let us remind them by gaining independence as soon as possible.
