Boris Johnson a ‘friend of the Welsh language’ says Welsh Secretary
Prime Minister Boris Johnson “understands why the Welsh language is so important” according to the UK Government’s Welsh Secretary.
Speaking to Golwg magazine at the Eisteddfod in Llanrwst this week, Alun Cairns said that the new Prime Minister was a friend of the language.
“He has studied minority languages at University,” Alun Cairns said.
“So he understands the importance of nurturing, developing and using language. So I think Welsh culture is very safe, and in a very strong place with Boris Johnson as Prime Minister.”
Boris Johnson learnt the Welsh national anthem while a candidate for Clwyd South in 1997. However, he called the language a “weird creole” in his 2005 book Seventy-Two Virgins.
Alun Cairn also claimed that he was a “Welshman to the hilt” after he was criticised for not making Wales a priority for the UK Government.
“Some have complained, perhaps,” he told Golwg magazine.
“But I am entirely comfortable. I have had a fantastic reception at the Eisteddfod today. I feel entirely comfortable. I am a Welshman to the hilt.
“And I use my role to support Wales, to support the Welsh language, and to support the role of the United Kingdom in working for Wales.”

According to Wikipedia, Mr Johnson studied Classics at university: subjects such as Ancient Greek and Latin. Yup, minority languages for sure, because no-one speaks them any more. Who says he’s a liar?

Alun Cairn once again displays himself as foolish and ignorant. Johnson May have studied ‘minority’ languages but not at Oxford where Latin and Greek are classical not minority: though one supposes that now Latin is no longer the State language of the Vatican and Ancient Greek conversational nowhere, then the two are, indeed, eligible to be classified as Minority’. Alun Cairn is ‘a Welshman to the hilt’ only so long as his pockets get lined and he thinks he’s got a chance for a Knighthood. Look at his voting record and how he’s treated the Vale constituency for the real picture. He’s against EMA, guaranteed jobs, and low Uni fees for our kids and against benefits for the ill and poor. Alun Cairns is no friend of Wales and never has been. Every time I see or hear the man I am angered by his snivelling subserviency to his masters and his betrayal of his roots. He reminds me of George Thomas who not only shared the same characteristics but was also a world class w****r to boot.
The position of the Secretary State for Wales needs to be scrapped it now means nothing to Wales and with Cairns in charge the image of Wales he presents is of a subservient puppy. That has to stop and our true position regarding the stupidity of the UK government made loud and clear. Johnson has no concern for Wales whatsoever and Brexit will cripple the country, true stupidity at it’s greatest.
He’s as dillusional & hungry for power as his boss Johnson. One of his greatest failures was the tidal power for Swansea. That would have been a fantastic long term achievement for the local economy & environment, it should have been an easy win. If it was in the South East of England where the true influencers reside it would have gone through easily. We deserve much, much better.
