Call for YouGov to scrap ‘absurd’ Midlands-Wales polling region after England football survey

30 Jun 2021 2 minute read
Midlands-Wales? Couldn’t it at least be Wales-Midlands?

There have been renewed calls for YouGov to scrap their “absurd” Midlands-Wales polling region after the pollster quizzed respondents about whether they were supporting England or Germany for last night’s game.

The results for Wales, which has its own national football team, were included with those of the English Midlands, rendering the results for the nation essentially meaningless.

YouGov include Midlands-Wales as a category in most UK-wide polls, despite often polling issues such as Covid-19 restrictions where the rules are different on both sides of the border. Scotland is included as its own separate region in the results.

The incongruity of the latest set of results, however, drew a strong response on social media, with one asking: “Where the f**k is Midlands-Wales?”

“Honestly it’s absurd, the only one worse than this was polling on attitudes towards devolution that also grouped Wales and Midlands,” David Bowen said.

“‘Midlands Wales’ is a rather odd grouping,” said Hywel Daniel. “You’d expect the Midlands to support England given that it’s in England. Wales isn’t.”

“Wales and the Midlands together? Absurd,” said Ken Brocklesby.

“Would you like to share your workings out?” Carin Davies asked. “Midlands – of England I presume – with Wales? A different country.”

According to the poll, 60% in ‘Midlands-Wales’ would be supporting England, while 5% would be supporting Germany.

The Midlands-Wales Football Association did not exist for comment.

Every opportunity to take away the voice of Cymru. The Midlands can’t be happy about us skewing their results either

To be fair the other English regions are rather absurd as well: “London” makes sense, but “Rest of South” and “North” are rather stupid groupings as well.

In that it is totally illogical for YouGov to “lump together” the Midlands and Wales, does anyone know how can the readers of Nation Cymru cause YouGov to change this stupidity, not least as it is logical to conclude that the English residents of the Midlands would wish to assert their own identity!!!

Just one more of the belittling and doubtless deliberate machinations to erase Wales. U-Gov need to wake up and smell the cheese.

Oh do get a grip. YouGov was founded by Nadim Zahawi, expenses fraudster and all-round numpty. Expecting anything better from his kind is hilarious.

Ahhhh makes a lot of sense now after seeing this, they’ve been manipulating our opinions from the start those crooked c**k roaches, so rise in anti-devolution in “Wales” could have been because of this lil trick. Crooks!

GB is divided into five areas of roughly equal population size that’s why the odd Wales and Midlands exists.

(Just explaining why as many of you won’t have seen it before and this article doesn’t explain why only what)

It’s fine for many things but not questions on the England football team.

70million people divided into 5 groups, one of which is Scotland (5m iirc). Your story seems unlikely.

Quite so. Scotland would have to be lumped in with a large part of the North of England for that to be the case. YouGov are simply too scared to belittle the Scots but think the Welsh are a soft touch who’ll do nothing about their tendency to disparage Cymru at any given opportunity.

It certainly isn’t “fine” Paul for any reason when it comes to lumping one country into another part as if it’s a board game..!!

Well the Welsh Secretary is from Wolverhampton and wants devolution ended and all Welsh income sent to London so I see no problem here.
Innit?
