Community groups across Conwy and Denbighshire are being invited to apply for the latest grant from the Brenig Wind Farm Fund.

The benefit fund provides a way to compensate organisations who live within a 15km radius of the Brenig Wind Farm near Llyn Brenig, south of Denbigh.

The deadline to apply for a share of the £60,000 grant is August 25th with funding available for a wide variety of environmental, socio-economic and educational purposes.

One recent recipient was Clwb Beicio Llansannan who used the £7,000 they received to buy a fleet of 13 electric bikes which are now available to club members.

Huw Rawson, Clwb Beiocio Llansannan organiser, said: “It’s helped us and we’re seeing plenty of use made of these bikes, especially at weekends.

“It’s very hilly around here and without the extra help that an electric bike gives a lot of people might be put off trying cycling but the electric motor is a big help with the hills and you can have as much or as little help as you like from it – the important thing is to get out there.”

The funds from the Brenig Wind Farm Project are managed by the Denbighshire-based rural regeneration agency Cadwyn Clwyd which has distributed more than £300,000 to over 40 local projects.

Deadline

Cadwyn Clwyd Project Manager Helen Williams said: “We have been delighted to help so many local organisations benefit from the Wind Farm Fund so far and we’re looking for many more to get bids in by the deadline.

“This is a great opportunity for local community groups and societies who need to think big and small because the money is available for a range of projects across the area.”

The area that’s eligible stretches from St Asaph in the north to Maerdy in the south and from the River Clwyd in the east to the upper reaches of the Conwy Valley.

Applications go before a grants panel that makes the final decisions on how the money should be allocated.

Some of the projects to have received funding include a bowling green at Llansannan, a business coordinator for Menter Iaith Conwy and a ride-on mower for Bro Aled Sports Society.

The deadline for the latest funding round of £60,000 is August 25th with more details on the Cadwyn Clwyd website.

An excellent example of how large Companies bribe and sweeten any opposition to their nefarious money making schemes.
