Council moves to stop motorhomes cluttering streets following complaints

Motorhomes will have one less seaside avenue to settle in overnight after a council imposed parking restrictions.
Holidaymakers looking for a cheap overnight berth will not be able to park up on Gloddaeth Avenue, Llandudno, after Conwy council contractors painted single yellow lines down the length of the dual carriageway on Tuesday.
Locals said they had seen an increase in caravans and motorhomes parking along the unrestricted stretch of road since lockdown regulations eased.
With uncertainty over the future of adjacent Maelwgyn car park residents and business owners were alarmed to see workmen painting yellow lines along the avenue, but Conwy council moved to quickly reassure them cars would still be allowed to park there.
A council spokeswoman confirmed the restrictions actually came into force on August 4.
It comes after complaints motorhomes were parking up in various seaside parking zones in the north and leaving of effluent and rubbish in tourist areas since the relaxing of lockdown measures.
She said: “Motorhomes and caravans will not be allowed to park overnight on sections of Gloddaeth Street and Gloddaeth Avenue.
“We publicised these proposals on 8 October 2020 and did not receive any objections, so we continued to make the traffic order.
“We want to reassure you that these restrictions apply to caravans and motorhomes only, and will not prohibit other vehicles parking.”
‘Zones’
It means within the zones marked by single yellow lines motorhomes and caravans will not be able to park betweem 11pm and 8am, stopping visitors making an impromtu pitch at the side of the roads.
It is one of a number of parking measures restrictions being imposed, along with double yellow lines around junctions with the north-western side of Gloddaeth Avenue at Great Ormes Road, Carroll Place, Salisbury Court and Salisbury Road.
On the south-eastern side there will be no parking at anytime around the junction with Manor Park.
On Gloddaeth Street on the north-western side there will be no parking at the junction with York Road.
On the south-eastern side of Gloddaeth Street no parking around the junction with Clifton Road and from a point 17 metres north-east of its junction with Chapel Street to a point 33 metres south-west of its junction with Garden Street.
Restrictions for motorhomes and caravans preventing them parking on Gloddaeth Avenue between 11pm and 8am are as follows:
North western side:
1. From a point 15 metres north-east of its junction with Great Ormes Road to a point 10 metres south-west of its junction with Carroll Place.
2. From a point 10 metres north-east of its junction with Carroll Place to a point 10 metres south-west of its junction with Salisbury Court.
3. From a point 10 metres north-east of its junction with Salisbury Court to a point 10 metres south-west of its junction with Salisbury Road.
South eastern side;
1. From a point 11 metres north-east of its junction with Great Ormes Road to a point 10 metres south-west of the access road to Manor Park.
2. From a point 10 metres north-east of the access road to Manor Park to a point 30 metres south-west of its junction with The Oval.
3. From a point 30 metres north-east of its junction with The Oval for a distance of 7 metres in a northeasterly direction.
4. From a point 56 metres north-east of the Oval to a point 143 metres south west of its junction with Maelgwyn Road.

Typical North Wales councils driving away motorhomes and all the potential business revenue. Half a million motorhome in the country. Villages and towns in France.Germany. Spain all have Aires for visiting motorhomes and are made welcome as they bring in much valued income. To the areas.
North Wales councils have virtually declared war on motorhomes parking in any areas.
Motorhomes are self contained and take their waste away when leaving.

Oh stop with the fake indignation. There are places for motor homes to park all over North Wales and, well, the world. We call these Camping / Caravan / Motorhome parks. But penny pinching greedy motor home drivers want to park for FREE! and park where they want. A basic motorhome costs about £40k new. So the owners CAN afford to park legally. They are “self contained” until they are full. That’s a very undermined comment phil. So if you have a 15 pound pop up tent , with more rubbish, and no toilet or grey waste , it’s ok is it. The new Motorhome s are in excess of 150 k. Second hand 2015 —40 k. But surely your point is wrong. Serious owners of Motorhomes. Do not do what you say. The hire Motorhome , offenders do. The key issue, WHICH YOU SINGULARLY FAIL TO ADDRESS is that selfish greedy motorhomers are trying to avoid paying campsite charges and don’t care about the inconvenience they cause decent people who follow the rules.

Well if the revunue from mh campers caravans isn’t wanted, and forcing people to use inflated campsites best if avoiding the area, taking our tourist pounds elsewhere. So long north Wales!

Have north Wales councils considered the Aires approach as in the continent as a new motorhome owner I did want to visit all around the country. In Scotland councils are providing some basic facilities I will gladly pay for. I’m not a particular fan on Llandudno however I would visit should there be a welcome. Some pubs and hotels are also taking the Aires approach. My motorhome was 60 k I gladly spend up to £50 or more on meals for 2 and give the local areas employment and revenue.
Park legally and there will definitely be a welcome, even in the Llandudno you felt the need to tell us you didn’t like (did “negging” used to work for you in the school disco?) .

Some people amaze me with there attitude,we have a large motorhome and respect the people and areas we visit. We park with consideration even on the seafront when visiting the beach for a afternoon,we never block the view of a property that is occupied,we have stayed in pub car parks with the landlords permission either having a meal or putting a donation in their charity box,but mostly we pre book sites. I think if you were actually look at the motorhomes that like to park along streets and other ‘free’ places you won’t find many £40-60k motorhomes but older often poor condition vans the owners of which spend their summer months moving from one coast town to another. Those that want to spend money in a town are quite happy to use proper campsites but in Llandudno there simply aren’t any. I know there are sites at Rhos on Sea and Llandudno Junction but those aren’t in Llandudno. Parking a motorhome even in daytime is often difficult so campsites within walking… Read more »
i cant understand why the north wales councils cant put their car parks to use and make money from them, limit the spaces to 10 motorhome pitches, put meters on and only allow a 2 night stay out of 10 by registering the motorhome registrations. other councils in England are doing this and its working, keeping the van lifers and long stayers at bay, plus if all the local councils adopted this throughout britain it would spread the glut of motorhomes out and solve the problem.
Absolutely, if Powys can do it, why can’t the other counties see the benefit.
