The use of Covid passes will be extended to theatres, cinemas and concert halls in Wales, the Welsh Government has announced.

The change will come in from 15 November due to rising levels of Covid cases in the country, the First Minister will announce at his Friday press conference.

Mark Drakeford said he needed to “take more action now to strengthen the measures we have in place” in order to drive down cases.

Covid passes show people have either tested negative on a lateral flow test, were fully vaccinated against Covid or have had confirmation of a positive test within the last six months which has been followed by the appropriate period of isolation.

They are currently only compulsory for over-18s to enter nightclubs, indoor no-seating events with more than 500 people, outdoor no-seating events with more than 4,000 people, or an event with more than 10,000 people, including sport.

Heath Minister Eluned Morgan said earlier this week they had been “thinking about” the change because they are “hugely” concerned about the high levels of Covid-19.

“Is there any more we can do, for example, around working from home,” she said. “Is there more we can do to make sure that people do actually wear their face coverings in public places indoors, and we’ll be seeing if it may be necessary to roll out the vaccine passports [Covid passes] to other situations.”

The Welsh Conservatives have said that they opposed any new restrictions. Covid passes are not a requirement in England but are in Scotland.

Of course they do… I seem to recall comments relating to letting bodies pile high from their masters in Westminster…

Eluned Morgan is really making Vaughan Geithing tenure in charge of Wales NHS look so much more exemplary than it ever really was, never has a minister procrastinated for so long and lost all control of such a terrible infection rate, from her ‘porous border’ to confusion over measures to protect schoolkids, she really is out of her depth at a time when we need so much more from our health services, and even more worrying is that Eluned Morgan is one of the front runners to succeed Mark Drakeford when he steps down, If that happens, wave goodbye to… Read more »

The start of tyranny. Forced by coercion to take an experimental still in clinical trial gene therapy drug to be allowed to live your life. This is satanic, this is beyond evil. The lies and made up figures by the corrupt governments of western society. We live in dark, dark times
