The number of cases linked to an outbreak of the Delta Covid variant caused by youth “gatherings” have tripled in a week and businesses have been warned to follow Covid guidelines.

Denbighshire council’s Incident Management Team (IMT) says 31 people have now tested positive for coronavirus.

Last Friday the number of linked cases stood at 10.

They include transmission within households and positive tests include adults and under-18s, a statement from Denbighshire council said.

Not all incidences have been confirmed as the Delta variant but, as it’s now the dominant strain in the UK, they are being treated as if they are.

The cases all come after gatherings of teenagers and a total of 402 pupils are self-isolating from three schools – Ysgol Brynhyfryd in Ruthin, Denbigh High School and St Brigid’s, also in Denbigh.

IMT chair Nicola Stubbins said: “We are continuing to work on identifying cases linked to these clusters through our Test Trace Protect (TTP) teams.

‘Vigilant’

“Now the Delta variant is present in Denbighshire, we are asking everyone to remain vigilant against the spread of Covid-19.

“This includes not attending gatherings which contravene Welsh Government guidelines, to practice social distancing and those who have been asked to, must self-isolate for the full period.”

She also issued a warning to businesses and stressed they must enforce guidelines including social distancing and track and trace procedures.

Ms Stubbins added:  “Businesses found to be breaching these regulations can be served with an Improvement Notice, a Closure Notice and/or a Fixed Penalty Notice from the Council while those found not self-isolating can also face a Fixed Penalty Notice.”

Anyone who developing Covid-19 symptoms is being urged to book a PCR test immediately and following a positive result, self-isolate and share all relevant information with TTP advisors.

Eligible people not showing symptoms should also undertake regular lateral flow tests at home, which are free and can be ordered online for home delivery.

Denbighshire currently has the second highest weekly case rate in Wales at 77.3 per 100,000 people and has the highest test positivity rate at 5.4% from every 100,000 tests.

Yesterday Public Health Wales confirmed another 184 cases of the Delta Covid variant had been identified over the previous 48 hours, taking the total number of cases in Wales to 488.

Where are these irresponsible parents? Apparently a Tenby High School has to be closed from next week because Years 9/10 had a big party in a pupil’s house and now 20+ have tested positive!

Nothing self isolation can’t solve. No different to any other bug really, or seasonal flu. How come no kids caught it from adults the past 18 months? Nor did many test positive from continuing mingling in far greater numbers in school?

How many of those tested positive actually had any health problems from it? If people are so confident in the vaccine, then it makes no difference to the health of over 30’s already protected. How has our species survived all these otherwise? At the end of the day the vaccines antidotes all derive from natural substances and good bacteria etc that are more potent than just trace extracts. If we naturally consume substances such as saffron etc, and stopped pumping chemicals into our bodies then we would all be much healthier. Same as if we stopped genetically modifying, mutating and… Read more »

Clearly you have not been to many Zoom funerals in the last year and a half or seen your 22 year old daughter taken to A&E after a vaccine. The AZ vaccine contains genetically modified parts taken from chimpanzees – it’s in the leaflet. which of course you don’t have a chance to read until afterwards. You are right below about contracted numbers of doses, Tory money laundering again.

I saw this coming, Guilt tripping psychology to prey on the youth to force their arm into compliance. A war on generation woke to satisfy contracts of dose quantity orders. 1 billion overstock? For people so good at cooking the figures, They can’t be that bad at counting surely?
