Gareth Bale has picked up a long-term injury, the Spanish media is reporting.

According to Spanish journalist Melchor Ruiz from Deportes Cope, the Welsh captain has injured the hamstring on his right leg.

He said: “Bad news for @GarethBale11 and @realmadrid. The Welshman has a long-term injury to the hamstring of his right leg.”

According to Spanish sports newspaper Marca, Bale was injured in the last training session at the Bernabéu stadium last Saturday before Real Madrid’s game against Celta.

It shared images of the player leaving the stadium visibly limping and with a bulky bandage on the thigh of his right leg.

The news of the injury has been shared by Spanish radio programme El Partidazo de COPE.

On its official Twitter account, it is reporting that the player had a medical examination on Monday which revealed the injury. It added that this is a long-term injury and that it is unknown how long the Welshman will be out of action.

An injury to its talisman would severely damage Wales’ hopes of reaching the World Cup in its remaining qualifying matches. Bale was due to win his 100th Wales cap in Czech Republic next month.
