Ffestiniog Town Council has become the third in Wales to back Welsh independence after a vote on Thursday.

The deputy leader of the Town Council, Erwyn Jones, who put forth the proposal for a vote, said that the vote was unanimous.

The Ffestiniog Town Council area includes the town of Blaenau Ffestiniog and the village of Llan Ffestiniog.

“We noted that the march in Cardiff had been a huge success and that many from our community and surrounding area had taken part, and that it was great to hear that there will be another march in Caernarfon next month,” Erwyn Jones said.

“Ffestiniog Town Council is very glad to join and amplify the message already sent out by Machynlleth and Porthmadog for independence.

“We also encourage Town and Community Councils across the rest of the country to join in the effort.”

The proposal read: “In the wake of the recent rally in our capital city, where thousands marched for independence for our country, and with an eye on the march organised in Caernarfon next month; I call on Ffestiniog Town Council to support the cause of independence for Wales!”

Porthmadog Town Council has become the second in Wales to formally back Welsh independence on Tuesday.

Machynlleth Town Council, in Powys, became the first to formally back Welsh independence in May.
