Flintshire council removes pro-independence ‘graffiti’ from Welsh border

Flintshire Council has removed what it called “inappropriate” pro-independence graffiti from a road on Wales’ border this week.

A Twitter user spotted council workers jet spraying the words ‘Wales Indy’ from Sealand Road, which runs over the Welsh border into Chester.

The Council told Deeside.com that they had also removed Welsh independence slogans sprayed on a cycle track near the River Dee.

“The Council was informed of graffiti along the A548 Sealand Road and on the nearby cycle track that runs alongside the river Dee, some of which was deemed to be inappropriate,” the council said.

“In line with the agreed operational standards, arrangements were made to remove the graffiti using resources that were available at the time.”

A pro-independence Twitter user said the message had been removed within two hours and asked “You’d think they’d just leave it to fade or paint over it?”

He said that Dashcam footage on way back showed that they had failed to remove the words completely and had called in the line painting unit.
