Footy captain Jess Fishlock names price for supporting independence: herself on Welsh banknotes

Wales footy captain Jessica Fishlock has drawn up some jazzy new Welsh banknotes.

The 33-year-old midfielder drew up the currency for a Bank of Wales featuring her and teammate Sophie Ingle and joked with grassroots pro-independence group YesCymru that it might be what it takes for her to back the cause.

Fishlock, the first Welsh player to earn 100 caps for the national team, drew up a green £5 note featuring herself, and a red £10 note featuring Ingle.

They both had the red dragon featured in official Football Association of Wales badge emblazoned on the bottom left corner.

Wales teammate Sophie Ingle replied by saying: “Count me in Happy woman raising one hand #BankOfWales.”

 

‘Scenes’

The banknotes delighted YesCymru and its supporters, so much so that the pro-independence group even joked about renaming itself “JessCymru”.

YesCymru quoted her tweet with the words: “Aye, aye captain.”

YesCymru supporter and Welsh footy fan John McAllister said: “Wales most capped footballer tweeting about @YesCymru. Scenes we love to see.”

Ben Cole said: “If this isn’t what we are aiming for as Bank notes, then what exactly are we aiming for?”

Dylan Thomas said: “Another reason for an independent Wales.”

Evan Powell said: “Jess Fishlock is definitely getting a statue post-independence.”
