Tourists from Wales can now use their NHS vaccination QR code to access public places in France in a Covid-19 passport scheme.

The code is compatible with the French coronavirus app Tous-AntiCovid, that provides access to eating, travelling and leisure activities under the French scheme.

France is also open to tourists from England, but officials said the French app would not work with Scottish and Northern Irish certificates.

French government officials have said the administrative impasse would end when a separate Covid passport for non-EU tourists is launched.

The Covid passport scheme has been introduced by President Macron as part of a plan to encourage reluctant sections of the nation to get vaccinated.

In restaurants waiters are responsible for checking that customers have a vaccine passport.

If the police discover customers without a passport at an establishment, it can be temporarily shut down.

The new rules have prompted protests in some parts of France from anti-vaxers.
