GB News presenter suggests English are being ‘exploited’ by Wales

26 Aug 2021 2 minute read
Alex Phillips on GB News

A GB News presenter has suggested that the English are being “exploited” by Wales.

Former Brexit Party MEP Alex Phillips made the suggestion during her take on saving the union on the ‘anti-woke’ channel.

She said the English were “wearying perhaps” that their “prosperity” was being used to fund things over the border they were themselves “denied”.

These included services that are available in Wales and Scotland, such as free prescriptions and student grants, which are have been “gifted to countries that all the while seem to resent and snipe”, according to the presenter.

Phillips described having Wales option on forms as “confusing”, because it’s “hard to know what country you’re in”.

She also claimed that our “shared identity” in the UK is “baffling” for foreign diplomats.

Phillips said: “The English meanwhile never asked what they want, wearying perhaps from her prosperity being exploited to prop up political trinkets over the border that her own people are denied, from free prescriptions to student grants, gifted to countries that all the while seem to resent and snipe.

“If the UK sat around the dinner table it would quickly regress into a bitter family feud.

“With indyref two within five years, bolstered by a marriage of convenience between the SNP and the Scottish Greens and English Votes for English Laws quietly abolished last month by Parliament before anyone could notice, the situation is further complicating itself in the shadows.”

‘Hard to know’

She also said: “She said: “When filling out an address online sometimes it’s hard to know what country you’re in when scrolling down the drop-down box.

“If you were looking under G for Great Britain perhaps, or use the United Kingdom, or perhaps England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland all boast their own billings. This confusion mirrors the same circumstance we find ourselves in.

“The complex nature of our shared identity, baffling foreign diplomats and world leaders, as well as us, ourselves.”

Can you include a picture of the hat that she’s talking through ? As for her analogy of the family feud what makes her think that the one person (Engerland/UK) is right while the other three ( W,S, NI) are all wrong ?

It’s difficult to estimate how much corporate tax comes from Wales because UK-wide businesses are statistically more likely to be registered in the 84% of the UK that is England. The only thing we can be sure of is that HMRC’s corporate tax takings are less English than they appear.

When filling in on line forms very few include England, Wales, Scotland & NI unless they are specific UK documents and there is a reason why one’s location within the “Union” are relevant.

Since it is not in Westminster’s interests for Wales to have anything better than a colonial economy that produces little wealth for Wales itself, it is inevitable that Westminster must fund the shortfall. It is actually impossible for Westminster to facilitate a prosperous Wales, since the Welsh economy is geared primarily to the interests of England; Johnson’s road improvement plans for Wales, for instance, are being considered purely for their potential benefit to the English economy and tourism. A prosperous Wales would quickly be an independent Wales; far better for them to keep filling the begging bowl. Therefore, despite what… Read more »

As usual, the elephant in the room is, why on earth do the British/English want their England to be part of the union?
Poor little England exploited and bullied by its neighbours, who they are only escaping third world status due to generous handouts by their English overlords.

If this is true why don’t the English leave the union or failing that just stop paying the other UK countries so much? The majority of MPs in Westminster represent English seats so nothing is stopping them. There must be some benefit to England for having Wales as a colony, huge amounts of free water and cheaper second homes are just two of the things that come to mind, cui bono (who benefits)?

She clearly sees the Celts as the children, with England the parents dishing out pocket money to the spoilt brats. Definitely time for ‘the kids’ to leave the nest and get away from their control freak mum and dad!

There’s nothing to stop the English parliament at westminster from confering such ‘trinkets’ as free prescriptions and student grants on the people of England. Not doing so is a political decision taken by the english govt at westminster. If the ex tory/ ex ukip/ ex brexit party member alex phillips is as concerned about this as she makes out she should direct her criticism at westminister not at scotland and wales

Here is an idea England, pay for all the water, gold and electricity you are stealing off us and using for your own industries. Lets just cut that off from them and see how our imperialist overlords cope and how long their manufacturing and drinking water lasts.F’ing colonialists making themselves out to be the victims.

Saying the Welsh are exploring the English is like stating Hitler was a friend of Israel. Let’s give this blond bimbo some facts, shall we. The English state, not the English people I might add, have used & abused the Welsh since the Saxons were invited in by King Vortigern in the 5th century. And since then, the original people of this island, we the Cymry, have faced unimaginable prejudice for centuries. We’ve had the loss of our native lands that were consumed into what is now England. We’ve face numerous attacks on our lands, language & culture with the incursion… Read more »

She is quite right. As someone who lives in Shropshire i am sick to death of welsh signs everywhere. The Welsh, that’s a mere 3.5 million of them should understand & be grateful to the English …..what has that dreary grey place got to offer?

If Wales has nothing to offer why do you keep crossing the border from Shropshire. Just stop coming here and your sickness caused by Welsh road signs will also be cured. Unfortunately there is no cure as yet for bigotry.

It must be the case you have to be particularly thick, ignorant and blinkered to work for her gb new as she proves herself with her with the nonsense she is broadcast. We in Scotland at least DO NOT get free prescriptions nor do we get free further education nor a great many other benefits perceived to be free yet not listed, we in Scotland happily pay that little bit extra in taxes to cover those additional costs. In respect of completing on line documentation identifying the country of origin the next time I see England, Northern Ireland, Scotland or… Read more »
