Huw Edwards has reminded his fellow journalists that the upcoming Senedd election is not a “regional” one.

The BBC broadcaster took to Twitter to offer a “polite word” from his “Cameronian shed”, following inaccurate reports about the elections in Wales and Scotland in the British media.

He pointed out that the vote to decide who will be elected to Wales’ national parliament is in fact a national election, and drew a distinction with that and the elections that are taking place in England, which are local and regional.

Votes will take place across the UK on May 6, which include national elections in both Wales and Scotland, local council as well as mayoral elections in England, and police and crime commissioner elections in Wales and England.

Huw Edwards said: “A polite word from my Cameronian shed to remind fellow journalists that elections in Wales [and] Scotland are not ‘local’ or ‘regional’ but NATIONAL. The English elections are local and regional. Humbly yours.”

Big fan of Huw. I know he has to get his hands dirty sometimes, working for the BBC, but as regards Wales he always steps up.

It’s a shame many in England still need to reminded that Wales and Scotland are separate nations. One day we’ll be independent and they’ll be forced to see.
