Snow could fall in Wales at the end of October, giving some in the country a white Halloween, according to the Met Office.

Bone-chilling temperatures will set in as the month comes to an end and the clocks go back on the final Sunday of October, with British Summer Time coming to an end.

Met Office senior meteorologist Greg Dewhurst told Sun Online: “We’re likely to see some snowy weather in higher parts as October moves into November.

“Likely areas to be affected are the Scottish mountains as well as higher ground in northern England and northern Wales.”

Bookies have also now shortened the odds on snow falling in Wales. Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead said: “We better make the most of any balmy temperatures because the end of October looks set to be a big freeze, so much so that we make it odds on for snow to fall this month in the UK.”

The Met Office’s long-range forecast says there is a chance of a colder settled period becoming established by early November, but that we can expect unsettled wet and windy weather in the meantime.
