The Bangor City area is one of only three in Wales with no recorded Covid-19 deaths among its population over the course of the pandemic so far, according to the latest ONS figures.

The eastern part of the university city in Gwynedd is joined by Llandudno Junction South and Llasanffraid Glan Conwy in Conwy, and Rhyl South West in Denbighshire, as the only areas where no one resident is recorded to have died from the virus.

Bangor as a whole did however see deaths. Three people resident in the adjoining Bangor South area died with Covid-19.

Across Wales and England, only 36 areas were recorded to have seen no deaths from Covid-19 at all.

Barmouth & Dolgellau in Gwynedd, Abermule, Churchstoke and Kerry in Powys, Borth and Bont-goch in Ceredigion and Narberth in Pembrokeshire had seen one death each.

The worst impacted area in Wales was Tonyrefail West in Rhondda Cynon Taf with 55 deaths, followed by Sandsfields in Neath Port Talbot with 50. The top five areas for deaths were all in Rhondda Cynon Taf and Neah Port Talbot.

Tonyrefail West in Rhondda Cynon Taf was also the fourth-worst impacted area in England and Wales. The worst of all with 72 deaths was Crabtree and Fir Vale in Sheffield.

Deaths in Wales and England are broken down by MSOA – Middle layer Super Output Areas – rather than council ward, local authority or constituency.

There are 410 of them in Wales and 6,791 in England and they have an average population of 8,288.

The latest ONS figures for deaths by MSOA were published this week.
