Interviewer goes viral after stumping anti-Senedd leader with two simple questions

A BBC interviewer has gone viral after stumping the leader of the Abolish the Assembly party with two simple questions.

On the programme Politics Wales, James Williams asked Richard Suchorzewski: “Is Wales a country?”

A visibly flummoxed Abolish the Assembly leader eventually answers: “I don’t understand the premise behind that question…. quite frankly. I view it…”

“Do you think Wales is a country?” James Williams asked again.

“Well… I view it as a nation, I view it as a country. I view it as an entity, within, though, the United Kingdom.”

“Which other country in the world doesn’t have its own parliament?” James Williams asks.

Again after a long pause, Richard Suchorzewski answers: “We are a country of 3 million people. Now quite frankly if we look… you have counties in England…”

“Can you name any other country that doesn’t have its own parliament?”

“I don’t understand the point you’re making, with respect,” he answered.

“Well, every other country in the world has its own parliament. But you think that Wales, being its own country, doesn’t deserve its own parliament.”

“Have the people of Wales voted for a parliament? The people of Wales, actually, the referendum, voted for an assembly – they haven’t voted for a parliament.”

Wales held a referendum on full law-making powers in 2011 and voted for by 63.49% to 36.51%.

After the interview was broadcast, a clip of the awkward answers was shared hundreds of times on social media sites.

Asked what other policies the party had, Richard Suchorzewski said that they would support any policies that did not expand devolution.

“If we get enough seats, and I appreciate that rolling back devolution is a process rather than an event, quite frankly. But if we get enough seats, we can make a difference,” he said.

“We can stop further devolution which we believe has been destructive for the people of Wales.”

I suspect this bunch is under the influence or even the payroll of the Tory government. The Tories will do anything to keep hold of power. We must do all we can to stop them getting any foothold politically – they care little for Wales.

Is Propel an accredited party in Wales? Do they have many candidates? If so, why are they not being interviewed or mentioned?

BBC excluded Propel despite it being a fully legitimate party with many more elected representatives than Abolish. Propel was excluded from even the ‘and the rest’ debate.
The BBC has refused to cite the grounds on which it admitted the Abolish Wales fake (EnglishUK nationalist+Conservatives) party (trolling Wales, the Senedd and all Welsh institutions, the Welsh language and culture and even democracy itself) to the ‘main parties’ debate when their support is just theoretical. This is political interference by the BBC – ITV has in contrast given Propel at least some coverage.

I think Richard Suchorzewski missed the obvious and easy answer here. England don’t have their own parliament (or even their own national anthem, although frankly they’re welcome to God to Save the Queen!). An English parliament with equal powers given to all four parliaments and a federal UK is about all that can save the UK right now.

He doesn’t understand the premise of a question about the constitutional status of Wales 🙄 His political party is all about the constitutional status of Wales 😂

We have done very well under the rule of London. And the sky is pink, whilst Martians live on Mars.

You need to back up your ststement ‘We have done very well under the rule of London’ with examples otherwise it is worthless.
Start with response to Covid and work backwards?

I think he is being sarcastic, due to the statements that follow, although sometimes the sky is pink and the timing of this event can affect the weather eye of shepherds and, if there is life on Mars then its inhabitants would indeed be called Martians but they are probably very small microbes
