‘It’s an important part of the title’: Prince Charles says that he bought a house in Wales ’40 years too late’
Prince Charles has said that he bought a house in Wales “probably 40 years too late” and that doing so was “an important part of holding the title” of the Prince of Wales.
The Duchy of Cornwall bought the Llwynywermod estate in 2006. In an interview with the Poet Laureate Simon Armitage on BBC Radio 4, he said that he enjoyed spending time in Wales. particularly during the winter.
“I now at last have somewhere in Wales to base myself, from time to time. Rather 40 years too late, probably. It’s been a wonderful opportunity at last to have somewhere in Wales. I come whenever I can.
“It’s an important part of holding this particular title. It took me years to establish somewhere – it wasn’t through want of trying. But it was difficult to find the right place.
“I used to go to various other houses, and it was very kind of people to lend them for a week or so, but it wasn’t the same thing obviously – until finally, we found this. Which has been a Godsend really.”
He added that the house was “incredibly cozy” because he had “some marvellous Welsh objects and Welsh quilts that I’ve managed to collect”.
“The house is called Llwynywermod, and it’s in Camarthenshire, not far from Llanymddyfri, the wonderful old market town that’s down below in the valley,” he said.
“We’re in that area of the Brecon Beacons national park. It is rather wonderful, I think. So the views from here are fantastic.
“It is wonderful coming down here. And I love coming in the winter when I can at a weekend.
“And I stump about in the Brecon Beacons and explore, which is magic, and fight my way through large numbers of sheep all over the place. It is very special because it’s more of a cottage.
“For me the joy has been in getting to know the local people. Some wonderful characters in this part of the world. Who are very special I think.
“The grass grows quite well here as you can imagine because it rains a lot of the time. I quite like rain, I don’t mind rain at all.”

Perhaps the good folk of Wales shouls start buying second homes in England.
They do it in Bulgaria, Spain, France, etc. So why not?
They would, but most are owned by English people. who in-turn buy a third home in Wales. Must be something in our water? Are yes, it’s called a dam & pipeline.

Wales has suffered the slight of having Pince Charles forced on our country by Welsh Unionists who thought it would quench Welsh Nationalism after centuries of prejudice and resource rape culmination with Capel Celyn and Tryweryn. The title “Prince of Wales” arrogated by English royals has no constitutional standing in Wales whatsoever. It is a bare title. It confers no more of a special status here in Wales than “Duke of Cambridge” confers a special status in Cambridge. And whether Charles has a holiday cottage in Wales is equally irrelevant as the Duke of Cambridge having a holiday cottage in Cambridge.
