Mark Drakeford skips First Minister’s Questions for Prince Of Wales investiture celebration

 

Mark Drakeford missed First Minister’s questions in the Senedd this afternoon because he was at Buckingham Palace for an event celebrating the 50th anniversary of the investiture of the Prince of Wales.

Minister for Environment, Energy and Rural Affairs, Lesley Griffiths, answered questions in his place.

“He’s in London representing Wales at an even there,” she said when questioned on Mark Drakeford’s absence by Plaid Cymru leader Adam Price.

“Everybody would want the FM to represent Wales in the way he is doing,”

Adam Price responded by saying: “Maybe we have different values, but I think the priority for the First Minister is to be here.”

Prince Charles became Prince of Wales aged 9 in July 1958 and was formally invested in July 1969 at Caernarfon Castle.

A poll by the BBC to mark 50 years since his investiture showed that 50% didn’t want to repeat the investiture at Caernarfon Castle, while 41% wanted a similar investiture.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Cornwall, along with Prime Minister Theresa May, were among the guests at Buckingham Palace.
