New interactive lockdown map breaks down Wales’ local restrictions by area

A new interactive map has been launched allowing people to see the different lockdowns restrictions that apply in Welsh counties by area.

The map shows the county lockdowns in the north-east and south-east as well as parts of Wales where only national restrictions apply.

Users can click on the map and call up the specific Covid-19 rules for their area.

It also shows parts of England impacted by local and national lockdowns, and the rules for the national lockdowns in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

It comes as two-thirds of Wales – over 2 million people – and one-third of England – over 20 million – come under tighter lockdown rules due to the second wave of Covid-19.

The tool, created by a team at the Commons Library, was launched due to confusion arising from constantly changing lockdown rules.

 

‘Temporary’

Today the Welsh Government announced that adults living alone, including single parents, in areas under local restrictions will be able to form a temporary bubble with another household in their local area.

The new rules will come into force tomorrow, Saturday, they said.

“The coronavirus pandemic has taken a huge toll on all of us – we’ve all been through so much this year already,” the First Minister Mark Drakeford said.

“We are once again seeing cases of coronavirus rising across Wales and the reintroduction of restrictions in many parts of the country to protect people’s health and control its spread.

“Many people will have the support of their family at this time but large numbers of people – young and old – live alone. None of us should have to face coronavirus on our own.

“Creating temporary bubbles for single people and single parents in local lockdown areas will make sure they have the emotional support they need during this time.”

The First Minister also said that the Welsh Government will act to strengthen enforcement powers for local authorities to fine people who organise house parties. and to simplify the process to introduce restrictions on drinking alcohol in public.

“I know these restrictions are difficult on all of us who want to see our family and friends but they are needed to keep Wales safe,” he said.

“We appreciate everyone’s efforts in following the rules and helping to prevent the spread of this virus.”
