Pembrokeshire pub bars Conservative MPs after vote on free school meals

A pub has announced that it is banning Pembrokeshire’s two MPs from entering due to their failure to back a vote on extending the free school meal provision in England.

The Globe pub in Fishguard said that it was banning Conservative MPs Stephen Crabb and Simon Hart from setting foot in the establishment.

The pub said it followed the decision by the Mill pub in West Yorkshire to ban their local MP Rishi Sunak.

“I would like it known that abstainer Stephen Crabb and Simon Hart, who voted in support of allowing children to starve, are similarly barred for life from The Globe!” the owner said on the pub’s Facebook page.

“Thank God that the Welsh Government has promised to provide food vouchers for children in need in Wales.

“I did think twice before posting – keep politics out of business and all that – but anyone who finds this policy heartless needs to take a stand and highlight the terrible attitude of our MPs.”

Stephen Crabb is the MP for Preseli Pembrokeshire and Simon Hart, the Secretary of State for Wales, is MP for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire.

Stephen Crabb abstained on the vote while Simon Hart voted against.

Manchester United footballer Marcus Rashford has been campaigning for vulnerable children across England to be protected by extending the scheme.

The Welsh Government has already pledged to extend free school meals throughout all school holidays until Easter 2021.

 

‘Disgusting’

The Globe’s move comes after The Mill, in Stokesley, in North Yorkshire, said it was barring Conservative MPs Matt Vickers, Simon Clarke, Jacob Young and Rishi Sunak from the restaurant.

In a post on Facebook, the Mill posted: “Don’t usually do politics but here goes…. I have never known a Government which is consistently the wrong end of every argument.

“Forget the poor handling of Covid for a minute and concentrate on what happened yesterday.  The Government voted against extending free school meals. This is disgusting! What’s worse Matt Vickers, Simon Clarke, Jacob Young, Rishi  Sunak all voted against the scheme. DISGUSTING!

“All are now barred from The Mill and Il Mulino for life.”
