Petition demanding depictions of dragons have a penis to be considered by Senedd committee
A bizarre petition demanding that depictions of dragons have a penis, has got enough signatures to be discussed by a Senedd committee.
The Petitions Committee at the Welsh Parliament will now have to consider the unusual proposal after 57 people signed it, which is 7 more than the 50 required.
This is still a long way off the 10,000 signatures needed for it to be considered for a debate in the Senedd.
The petition will be collecting signatures until 29 January 2022. Petitions can collect signatures for a maximum of 6 months.
The petition by Rhŷn Williams says: “Within symbology, an erect penis depicts fertility and strength, when applied to a royal insignia, it’s even more important because in order to show a leader’s capability in sustaining a kingdom, this has to be conveyed via simple imagery, thus… when the dragon is erect, it portrays dominance and leadership, but when the penis is missing, this portrays the creature (the nation) as dominated, weak and fragile.
“When the Royal Mint depict our dragon, they recognise that he has a penis, but for some reason, our government does not, and although some may find the topic amusing, this imagery is important if we are to carry on flying it for centuries to come.”
The petition has been a source of bemusement on social media.
