A plan for an “off-roading experience” near a breeding site for ospreys has been scrapped following a fierce backlash.

Dŵr Cymru came under fire for advertising the attraction at Llyn Brenig, with former former North Wales Police and Crimes commissioner, Arfon Jones slamming it as “wrong on so many levels”.

He tweeted a screenshot of the “attraction” tagging politicians, environment and wildlife groups to raise awareness.

A spokesperson for Dŵr Cymru said the utilities firm has “decided not to pursue this activity” after listening to “local feedback”.

The Llyn Brenig advert offered a what it called a “brand new all-weather, all-terrain, off-road adventure experience using a tracked, articulated ex-army vehicle which can “tackle boggy pastures, muddy hollows, rocky terrain, steep inclines, and even wade through water”.

A spokesperson for Dŵr Cymru said: “We can confirm that the proposed all-terrain vehicle tours will not now take place.

“While the social media promotion did not accurately present the proposed activity, we have listened to local feedback and have decided not to pursue this activity.”

Llyn Brenig is located in the heart of the Denbigh Moors, at a height of 1200 feet, on the border between Conwy and Denbighshire.

While the reservoir is already popular for traditional water sports such as sailing, fishing, and canoeing, the only power craft allowed on the water, until now, has been used by fishermen, ranger patrol boats and sailing club safety craft.

Local protests against Playground Wales projects will hopefully become a regular thing before long. A real economy that actually benefits Wales would be nice.
