Rugby legend Gareth Thomas has slammed Twitter for suspending his account.

The former Wales international, who is affectionately known as Alfie, says his account was suspended after he posted a video of himself dancing with his husband. The video is no longer up on the website.

Thomas described the incident as “bizarre” and criticised the tech giant for allowing people to “spew hate and discrimination” on the social media platform.

Its removal has led some people to express anger but others have suggested that it could have been a copyright issue because of the music that was being played in the background of the video.

Gareth Thomas said: “I find it bizarre that @Twitter suspended my account because I posted a happy video of me and my husband dancing happily to a song on the radio.

“Yet when people spew hate and discrimination then it’s very rarely even challenged.”

‘Comments’

The post about the suspension attracted a lot of comments.

Carole Anne said: “Loved that video! Put it up again!”

Peter Ferguson said: “It’s the music isn’t it. I enjoyed the video… remember it well.”

Berenice Golding said: “I had no idea you’d been suspended. Sorry that happened. I loved your dancing.”

Maureen Dando said: “Oh no! I had it bookmarked. It was joyful.”

Laura Ellis said: “Keeping dancing @gareththomas14 your video made me smile a lot. I played it at least three times and now whenever I hear that song I remember you dancing around your living room.”

Ryan Bath said: “Often take videos with songs down due to the music copyright, Facebook and Instagram do the same.”

Twitter has been approached for comment.

Sounds like a copyright bot. These are the bane of music teachers on Youtube.
