Snow and icy roads warning in Wales as emergency services report collisions

The Met Office has published a yellow weather warning across large parts of north and mid-Wales, as emergency services warn of poor driving conditions.

North Wales Police called on anyone out for essential travel to “drive according to the conditions. Reports of several collisions this morning already.”

There were reports of black ice “causing collisions” on the on the A487 at Porthmadog. The A40 Between Carmarthen and St Clears was closed in both directions for a time this morning due to poor driving conditions.

Dyfed-Powys Police also called on motorists to “please be careful when travelling today due to poor road conditions across the Dyfed-Powys force area. Please consider if your journey is essential and plan ahead.”

The Met Office warned that snowfall could cause difficult driving conditions across much of Powys and Wrexham as well as parts of southern parts of Gwynedd, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham.

Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, icy surfaces could cause injuries and there would be icy patches on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

The warning is in place until 6pm this afternoon.
