Sven-Goran Eriksson Sky News interview constantly interrupted by Lembit Opik

Sven-Göran Eriksson and Lembit Öpik

A Sky News interview with Sven-Goran Eriksson turned into a farce after it was constantly interrupted by phone calls from Lembit Opik.

Viewers were left in stitches after the former Lib Dem MP for Montgomeryshire tried to phone the ex-England manager seven times during the broadcast.

The 73-year-old Swede was being quizzed by Kay Burley ahead of England’s game against Croatia at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.

As he tried to answer the questions, he received a number of calls, and Opik face flashed up on the screen repeatedly.

“A quick thought before I ask you one more question, because it does look like Mr Opik really does want to talk to you…”

According the Opik, he met through their mutual love of Leicester City in 2010, while the Swede was managing the club

Opik told MailOnline: ‘It would be embarrassing to admit if I had meant to call him while he was on TV. Suffice it to say, I don’t always check who’s on TV before I call them.’

Times red box editor Patrick Maguire posted a statement from him which said: ‘I didn’t intend to call him while he was being interviewed. It shows the dangers of our virtually connected social media world.”

‘Expelled’

It has recently been reported that Opik has been expelled from the Liberal Democrats for advising the Tories on how to beat them.

He upset his former colleagues when he claimed the party had become a “become a parody of itself” and suggested that there is “currently no vaccine against stupidity”.

In the run up to the Senedd election, he spoke at a ‘How to Stop the Lib Dems with Lembit Öpik’ event organised by the Conservative Party.

He was introduced by former Secretary of State for Transport Chris Grayling, Conservative Member of Parliament for Epsom and Ewell.

His appearance at the event has led to him being booted out, according to a source in Lib Dem HQ that spoke to The Sunday Times.

In response to the news, the paper’s Atticus column said: “Not that anybody needs too much help nowadays.”

Yes, he was once MP for Montgomeryshire but otherwise what is the relevance of this piece of nonsense to Nation.Cymru?
Irrelevant tabloid drivel.

Lemsip Optik handed Montgomeryshire to the Tories and now we are stuck with them, the man is a walking nightmare. I didn’t know he had actually worked for the Conservatives, He continues to sink, I wonder about his mental health.
