Wales has recorded its third day this week with no new Covid-19 deaths, according to Public Health Wales.

Public Health Wales confirmed no new reported deaths from Covid-19 today, after also doing so on Friday and Monday.

The number of deaths recorded is however often lower on weekends as there is a delay in reporting them.

The total number of people who are known to have died in Wales remains at 1,541.

Public Health Wales figures also showed there were 10 new cases reported, bringing the total to 15,939.

The figures are revised retrospectively so deaths could be added in the future. They can also show fewer deaths on certain days when they are assigned to their correct dates – their figures for Wales also now show no deaths on 18 June as well as 3, 4, 5 July.

The Office for National Statistics also publishes figures on a weekly basis that show all registered deaths where Covid-19 is suspected, including outside of hospitals such as in care homes or at home.

Scotland reported its first day with no deaths from coronavirus on 7 June, and Northern Ireland on 26 May. England is yet to report a day without any deaths since March.

‘Complete’

This morning 1,049 cases of coronavirus from non-NHS laboratories were added to official Public Health Wales (PHW) figures.

The PHW dashboard shows more than 155,500 tests by its laboratories but there have also been 70,186 tests in non-NHS Wales labs.

PHW said it had been “working for some time to present as complete a picture as possible” of Covid-19 data.

“As a result we are reporting increases today in our total case numbers and to our daily total of new cases,” said a spokesman.

“This is to be expected when we include results from increased testing capacity, with more people encouraged to get tested. The data have been previously displayed separately on our dashboard.”
