Time to ‘draw a line’ under Johnson challenges says Andrew RT Davies after confidence vote blow

It’s time to draw a line under the challenges to Boris Johnson’s leadership, Welsh Conservative leader Andrew RT Davies has said.

Tory MPs voted by 211 to 148 in support of the Prime Minister but the scale of the revolt against Boris Johnson’s leadership leaves him wounded.

When Theresa May faced a confidence vote in 2018 she secured the support of 63% of her MPs – but was still forced out within six months.

Mr Johnson saw 41% of his MPs vote against him, a worse result than Mrs May.

But Andrew RT Davies said that the Prime Minister had shown that he can “command the confidence of the country, the House of Commons and the Parliamentary party”.

“The Prime Minister has secured a majority this evening in the Parliamentary Party,” Andrew RT Davies said.

“People across Wales and the UK want to see the Conservatives continuing to take the bold decisions to tackle the cost of living pressures we are all facing in our day to day lives.

“While people are struggling, today the Conservative Party has sadly spent all day talking to itself.

“Colleagues in Westminster, irrespective of their vote tonight, need to respect the 2019 General Election result that put them into their Parliamentary seats and start the job of rebuilding trust and confidence in the Government’s ability to improve people’s lives wherever they live.

“Now it’s time to draw a line under this, and get on with addressing the cost of living pressures people are facing.”

‘Lots to prove’

Speaking after the vote, Welsh Secretary Simon Hart also backed the Prime Minister.

“Don’t forget when he was elected as leader, he only got 51% of the vote. He’s just got 60% of the vote tonight,” Simon Hart said.

Boris Johnson won 66.4% of the vote in the 2019 run-off with Jeremy Hunt.

“So there’s a significantly greater number want him to stay than wanting to go under all of our systems,” Simon Hart said. “That is a very clear result.

“Of course, he has lots to prove. We all have lots to prove. It’s been a difficult choppy chapter. Lots to prove to voters, lots to prove to colleagues, but tonight was pretty decisive.

“Boris Johnson, as we know has proved the critics wrong on numerous occasions in the past. He now has an opportunity to do that again, and I very much hope that my colleagues do now give him the chance to.”

Sycophant supports dead duck! Not much of a sub-head, never mind a story. Anyone out there surprised?

Go climb back into whatever latrine you climbed out of Davies. Like all Tories you are vile. Our small country can do far better without your kind, the sooner independence comes the better, not only can Cymru do away with Westminster once and for all but the days of the likes of you will be numbered too.

Just incase you need reminding Davies Cymru did not vote for your beloved Tory party and no matter what you try to say or spin, the people have more sense than to ever vote for your beloved Tory party. So where in the world did you come up with a statement like the people of Cymru want to see the Conservatives continuing you live in Cuckoo land.

Green, but with a watermark through every leaf. Self serving zeros of hypocrisy care only about their tax haven bank accounts and corporate interests. Perhaps the trees are carbon footprint smoke screens so we can’t see the trees for the wood. We deserve better than the bed wetting traitors who c**k their legs up every time they sniff a place to off load a financial savvy pee mail to their faceless big pharma / tech chums in the world of hedge fund heaven.

Nice interpretation of facts and events of recent years. However too many of our woolly Opposition are also wedded to the junk spun out as fact by peddlers of greenwash and big pharma dependency. Radical change means just that, not tacking slightly to the “left” with a series of token but costly gestures.

Andrew needs to read what Rory Stewart wrote. Take away those who owe Johnson their jobs, salaries and ministerial perks and 75% of the rest wished him gone. Andrew and Hart are very much a minority within their own party.

The Welsh Tories are a party of fools, who under the leadership of Conservative clown Andrew RT Davies continue to show blind loyality to their English cult leader. The Conservatives are so toxic. And anyone in Wales who supports this party led by this pathalogical liar Boris Johnson are lacking not only intellect but a moral compass. Today we saw 148 Tory MPs in a secret ballot vote against their leader, and the likes of Andrew RT Davies naively think with him winning the vote means his problems are over. Think again. Theresa May won her vote and we all… Read more »

Yet again tories and particularly RTD demonstrate they exist to benefit themselves. With the devolved countries and even England regarded as collateral damage in pursuit of their corrupt dealings.

I think the line that fool Andrew RT Davies is referring too, is coloured yellow, usually drawn in the snow, and he’s been taking it out of Wales for years.

After the two pending by election mullerings the Tories are about to receive, it will indeed be time to ‘draw a line’ under Johnson’s’ time as PM. As for ‘People across Wales want the Conservatives’ …. Uh I’ll stop you there RT and finish the sentence with ‘out’, a message delivered in every election ever held over a quarter of a millennia.

Tory organ The Spectator reported that ….” Boris Johnson told his MPs that ‘I’d do it again’ when it came to attending leaving parties for staff during lockdown. He made the remarks during a last-minute plea for them to back him in tonight’s vote of no confidence.”

Yet over 200 wallies flocked to support him. Is this how herd immunity works ? Everybody losing their ability to see a genuine dud ?

What a hypocrite, just about every time he opens his mouth. He talks about respecting the result of the 2019 election, and at the same time is trying to reverse devolution, after that was voted for by the people of this country, and a further vote was taken to add more powers and strengthen devolution. He only wants respect for his views, and ignores the people of Cymru.

“People across Wales and the UK want to see the Conservatives continuing to take the bold decisions” Calling him R2D2 is apt, ‘cause he’s living in a Galaxy far far away. I’m waiting for him to thank Nadine Dorries for getting Wales to the World Cup
