A Tory minster turned up in the House of Commons after missing a Welsh Affairs Committee meeting because he was “unwell”.

David TC Davies, a Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Wales Office, was due to be quizzed at 10am this morning by Welsh MPs about the benefits system.

But when the time came, Stephen Crabb, the Chair of the Committee told MPs: “We were due to have David TC Davies from the Wales Office. Unfortunately Minister Davies is unwell.”

However, at 12pm, Davies was spotted in the House of Commons during a session of Prime Minister’s Questions, which saw Boris Johnson being grilled by MPs about No 10 staff holding a Christmas party amid lockdown restrictions last year, and then joking about it.

BBC journalist, Elliw Gwawr, who said she was scheduled to interview Davies later today spotted the Conservative minister in the chamber.

She tweeted a photo of Davies among a crowd of MPs, saying: “Top right corner – see David TC Davies who was too ill to attend the Welsh Affairs Committee this morning, and too ill to do an interview with me this afternoon standing in the chamber.”

She added: “According to the Wales Office David Davies has been ill with norovirus since yesterday. It looks like David TC Davies is well enough to be in the chamber for PMQs.”

The meeting of the Welsh Affairs Committee which Davies missed, was used to explore:

  • The lessons learned during the pandemic and the changes made to benefits by the UK Government;
  • The complexity of the different benefits and allowances available from the UK and Welsh Governments and local authorities;
  • Levels of communication between the UK and Welsh Governments on the latter’s Universal Basic Income pilot scheme.

The man is showing classic Tory MP symptoms. Nothing physical, but plenty of contempt, lack of honesty, dereliction of duty as an MP and a total lack of class, while not even bothering to try and hide it, by appearing in public.

He’s the annoying little nuisance from Monmouth who chirps up every now and again when something rattles his cage.
Claimed a short while ago that he’d formerly been a truck driver. Should have stuck to it…. He might have been of some use then!

Let’s hope he fully understands that the contempt is mutual, and pray that people of Monmouth have sufficiently long memories to take corrective action at the next election

It’s called. Hypocrisy. Delicate bloom Andrew RT Davies and his Anglophile Welsh Tories serve no purpose in Wales other than being an English Conservative party focus group .appendage with a sole agenda of criticising & disagreeing with everything our Senedd does. And even though England is following Wales & Scotland’s led with Covid passports , still argue how Wales should not implement this Welsh law. But they have previous form. Remember when Wales implemented the charge for plastic. bags a few years back. The Welsh Tories were hostile . Voted against it. Said it would destroy business and be an… Read more »
