Used car firm apologises for covering Cofiwch Dryweryn sign with ad

A used car firm has apologised for covering a Cofiwch Dryweryn sign with an advert.

Swansea Trade Car and Van Centre covered the sign dedicated to the drowning of the Welsh speaking village of Capel Celyn, with an advert that said “Cars & Vans Bought for Cash”.

The company has now said it didn’t know what the mural meant at the time, and that it is “deeply sorry”.

Independence supporter Dan Ley reacted angrily when he saw what the firm had done.

‘Apologise’

Mr Ley, a Rugbyworks Mentor, then went on to get the sign fixed.

He added: “Sorted it. The sign isn’t in the best condition so if there is any handymen/women who could go there with a ladder, hammer and nails to secure it a bit more it would be a good idea #cofiwchdryweryn.”

He got in touch with the company to let it know his feelings on the matter and later added: “Quick update, Swansea trade Car and Vans have apologised for the mistake. #cofiwchdryweryn #annibyniaeth.

He shared a screenshot of a text from the company that said: “Apologise to everyone I was helping Martyn out as he was off work with covid really didn’t know what it meant. All I can say deeply sorry and it won’t happen again.

“Just to let you know its all been taken down and I have updated Martyn on my mistake.

“I do hope I haven’t caused too much trouble. My deepest apologies again.”
