Vaughan Gething’s campaign for the leadership of Welsh Labour and the post of First Minister has launched – but he has left key parts of his website untranslated.

The Welsh language version of the website includes several sections titled ‘Achievement title in Welsh here’, latin filler text and large parts untranslated from English.

The development comes after another candidate for leader, Eluned Morgan, was criticised for an English-only leadership bid website.

Both Vaughan Gething and early favourite Mark Drakeford launch their campaign for the leadership today.

Eluned Morgan will launch her own bid for the top job later this week.

As part of his leadership bid, Vaughan Gething promised to back a People’s Vote on the final Brexit deal.

“Brexit is one of the greatest issues that our country faces,” he said.

“Everything from our NHS, our schools, farms, environment and infrastructure will be affected to the tune of millions.

“Nobody voted to make Wales poorer. Nobody voted to stockpile medicine to jeopardise life-changing research projects or to cut us off from our greatest and biggest trading partner.

“This is why I am unequivocal in my support for the People’s Vote. Wales deserves a final say on the Brexit deal.

“We deserve to decide for ourselves whether this deal is good enough for our future generations.”

Vaughan Gething also confirmed he’d like Liberal Democrat Kirsty Williams to remain in his cabinet if he wins.

Launching his campaign today, he also promised to fight for an end to inequality and poverty in Wales.

“Poverty and inequality in Wales is still a major issue that so many people face,” he said.

“We have fought as a country to better conditions, to give people the best start in life and to make sure the scales are equal but we just haven’t come far enough.

“Welsh Labour has been the only force committed to tackling inequality and poverty in Wales.

“We will radically overhaul our efforts so far and I will make this the prime responsibility of any government I lead.

“We will fight to create a Wales where we have each other’s backs, where we fiercely defend the rights of every person within our borders.

“We will champion equality, strengthen voices of change and fight to end poverty with all the strength of our government”
