Wales becomes first in the UK to vaccine a quarter of the adult population

Wales has become the first nation in the UK to vaccine 20% of its total population and 25% of its adult population.

The First Minister Mark Drakeford said that Wales was “one of the first countries in the world to do so” and sent “huge congratulations to our amazing vaccination teams”.

Wales has now given at least one vaccinate dose to 25.9% of its over 18 population. Wales is neck and neck for the speed of the vaccine rollout over the last 7 days per 100 people with Scotland.

Northern Ireland is third in terms of the speed of the vaccine rollout and England fourth.

Another 26,659 people received their first Covid vaccine dose yesterday, taking the total to 655,419.

A further 21 people died with coronavirus in Wales, according to the latest figures from Public Health Wales. It takes the total number of Covid-related deaths in Wales to 5,032.
