The Welsh Government has said that new UK Government border measures “do not go far enough”.

Downing Street announced new measures to reduce travel in and out of the country today, hoping to stop new variants of the coronavirus spreading further.

They include forcing travellers arriving in the UK from “high-risk” Covid-19 countries will have to quarantine for 10 days in government-provided accommodation.

The Scottish Government have said that they may impose tougher restrictions than those in England. The Welsh Government, meanwhile, said that discussions were still ongoing.

“We have agreed on the need for a joint approach between the four nations of the UK and the Republic of Ireland to strengthen border health measures, in order to prevent the further spread of coronavirus,” a spokesperson said.

“However, we do not believe the approach as set out by the UK Government goes far enough. Further discussions on the details of the proposals will take place as soon as possible.”

Home Secretary Priti Patel said told the Westminster Parliament earlier that a list of travel exemptions will also be urgently reviewed.

“It is clear that there are still too many people coming in and out of our country each day,” she told parliament.

“People should be staying at home, unless they have a valid reason to leave. Going on holiday is not a valid reason.”
