Welsh Government will consider fanzones as Amsterdam say they won’t let in Red Wall

There won’t be a Red Wall in Amserdam

The Welsh Government have said that they will consider applications from local authorities to set up fanzones for this weekend’s Euro2020 last 16 match.

Health Minister Eluned Morgan said that police in Amsterdam have said they will not be letting Wales fans into the country for this weekend’s tie.

“We would encourage fans to stay here and watch the matches carefully,” she said. “If local authorities come forward and ask us for the setting up of fan zones we will, as a Government, consider that and publish guidelines for how that could be done in a safe way.

“It is a finely balanced argument. We would rather people watched outdoors and if we could do that in a controlled setting it would be better than people going into each other’s homes.”

Wales will find out later today who they will play in the last 16 tie in Amsterdam. It will be the runner-up of Group B, which at the moment looks most likely to be Russia, but could also be Finland or Denmark. The teams are playing concurrently at 8pm today.

The game will be played on Saturday, 26th June at the Johan Cruyff Arena, Amsterdam.
