A Welsh health board is advertising for a new comms director who’ll pocket between £91,004 and £104,927 a year.

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, which is responsible for a population of 700,000 in the north, is looking for a Director of Partnership, Engagement and Communication, who will take home the hefty sum.

The troubled health board was brought out of special measures in 2020.

It will be the job of the successful applicant to “focus on how we involve and collaborate with citizens, partners and staff in all that we do”.

The post also comes with a “number of family-friendly benefits, including childcare voucher schemes”.

According to the specifications, the ability to speak Welsh is “desirable”, but it adds that English speakers are “equally welcome to apply”.

It also states that the location of the job is to be “agreed with the successful candidate”.

The advert on the NHS website says: “The Director of Partnership, Engagement and Communication will be responsible for partnership relationship building, testing and strengthening engagement with staff and the public.

“You will manage Communications, Public Engagement, Fundraising and Public Affairs teams and lead the development of matrix working arrangements with staff and patient engagement functions.

“We are seeking someone with a passion for improving health services with extensive experience in managing senior stakeholder relationships and communication. Experience of working in a political environment and/or with the media would be beneficial.”

‘Relish’

It also says: “If you relish a challenge, have a passion to help others or simply fancy a fresh start, then Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) North Wales, has all the right ingredients.

“The largest health organisation in Wales, providing a full range of primary, community, mental health, acute and elective hospital services for a population of around 700,000, across North Wales.

“Join our team and get the support you need, in line with our Organisational Values and ‘Proud to Lead’ competence framework.

“Enjoy being part of working with engaged leadership at all levels, and be assured we are committed to promoting equality and diversity, and are proud to welcome applicants under the “Disability Confident Employer” scheme.

“We also offer a number of family-friendly benefits, including childcare voucher schemes, work-life balance policies and on-site crèche facilities.”

Which do you think would be of most use to the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board?… a Comms Director or 3 nurses?.. £105K to push a biro around a page, arrange meetings, shake a few hands and report back on how well things are going. Waste of money, surely!

Calling all Tories, a lovely salary available and you don’t even need to move house. Knowledge of twitter and the ability to use a fountain pen required. Experience in the PR industry helpful and personal friends in positions of influence desirable. A history of being able to deny previous management failures, organisational c**k-ups and expenses scandals will be viewed as positive experience. Familiarity with fine wines a key skill.

Maybe former Welsh Secretary Alun Cairns MP could add this post to his ever-expanding list of extra-curricular jobs
