Schools in Wales have issued warnings to parents over a ‘smack a teacher’ challenge on Tik Tok, which is spreading globally.

The October trend follows September’s ‘devious licks’ challenge, which encouraged students to cause the most damage to their school toilets.

One school in Wales, which did not want to be named, this morning sent a letter to parents warning of the challenge and enclosing information about the safe use of the Tik Tok app.

Illegal activities

The letter read:

“Dear Parents,

Please find attached information about the Tik Tok app.

It has emerged that a very worrying activity called ‘Devious Lick’ is being shared on Tik Tok.

The activity encourages young people to partake in anti-social and often illegal activities and film themselves doing so.

September’s challenge was to destroy toilets in schools, and more concerning, October’s challenge is to hit a teacher.

Would you be able to discuss the use of this app and activity specifically with your child in order to support us in school.

Thank you for your continued support.”

Using Tik Tok safely advice

The challenge which originated in America has seen schools in the US issuing warnings of arrest if any pupils were to be caught taking part in the ‘Devious Lick’ challenge.

Wendy Doromal, president of the Orange County Classroom Teachers Association, told Fox 35 News:

“This is very disappointing.

“Anyone that would carry through on that would be committing an offence that could have them arrested … and I would expect that the staff member would press charges.”

Maybe “Smack a parent” would be a good initiative if this kind of loutish behaviour is advocated. Sooner parents are reintroduced to the concept of responsibility for offspring’s behaviour the better. How does all this sit with the Government’s smacking ban ?
