The Welsh Secretary job is among of those being mentioned as a potential change as reshuffle rumours consume Westminster.

Sky News Chief Political Correspondent, Jon Craig said that Simon Hart was one of the names mentioned by Tory MPs to be facing the axe.

Secretary for State for Scotland Alister Jack meanwhile has been tipped for promotion to a more senior role.

The Prime Minister has been rumoured to be about to announce a reshuffle of the Cabinet today despite Downing Street saying there are “no plans”.

Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire MP Simon Hart has been in the Cabinet as Welsh Secretary since Vale of Glamorgan MP Alun Cairns stepped down before the December 2019 General Election.

The Conservatives increased their numbers of MPs in Wales by six at that same election, giving them more choice of candidates for the job.

Education Secretary Gavin Williamson is also rumoured to be for the chop, with questions over Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab and Home Secretary Priti Patel.

Minister for the Cabinet Office Michael Gove, and Liz Truss, the Secretary for State for International Trade, have been tipped for promotion.

There were also rumours that the reshuffle was leaked by Downing Street in order to keep MPs in line order to vote through National Insurance tax rises, and that the Prime Minister will make no moves until October or November.

However Johnson is still expected to “freshen up” his most senior ranks “in the not too distant future,” a former senior government official told Financial News.

Let’s face it. This public school educated former master of fox hounds from the English Midlands who doesn’t actually like the Welsh was never going to be a good fit.

If he is to be removed from his job, of criticising Cymru to the press daily, maybe he could move to the land of milk and honey, and stand as a candidate for Westminster, in England.

The position of Welsh Secretary is now a waste of time and should be consigned to the dustbin of history. We in Wales should now have an ambassador instead. We are going to be independent sooner rather than later anyway, the way this UK government is going, so just give us one now. Of course they won’t but there is no harm in visualising what the near future will be like !
