Welsh Tory MP warns against ‘abominable’ compulsory vaccination after Johnson rolls out Covid passes
A Welsh Tory MP has warned the UK Government against making vaccines compulsory, saying that he and others from the party would not support it.
Clwyd West MP David Jones made the comments came after Boris Johnson announced that a Covid pass, proving vaccination or a negative test, will be required in English nightclubs and other venues where large crowds gather from a week’s time.
It brings England into line with Wales which has already implemented Covid passes for large events, cinemas and theatres. Covid passes for hospitality, including bars and restaurants, are among measures being discussed by Welsh ministers for announcement on Friday.
The UK Government’s plan is likely to lead to discomfort among Conservative MP, many of whom oppose what they see as a curtailment of civil liberties.
“I do hope nobody in Government is flirting with the idea of compulsory vaccination,” David Jones said. “That would be abominable, and I and very many colleagues simply wouldn’t support it.”
Devon MP Simon Jupp also said that he wouldn’t be supporting the new measures in England.
“Vaccine passports are divisive and discriminatory,” he said. “They do not stop the spread of Covid. Plan B will cost jobs in many sectors, including hospitality. Working from home won’t help our social or economic recovery.”
The measures are likely to pass in the House of Commons with Labour’s support, even if some Conservative MPs rebel.

I don’t think anyone has any plans for compulsory vaccines. It’s simply that if you haven’t been vaccinated you won’t be allowed to mix with those who have been. What’s the problem with that? It’s a free choice.
At least the Welsh Tories are starting to show a bit of consistency.
I was expecting them to be fully on board with Covid passes now that they’re a thing in England too.

Vaccine passports, designed to slow the spread of a worldwide pandemic, are, ” divisive and discriminatory ” claims the Party who are pushing for people to have ID before you can vote. Tory crap chat again to the fore.
Er a virus which has killed 8,000 people in Wales, 165,000 in the uk and over 5 million across the world is a ‘abomination’. Only the most callous social darwinist could describe the vaccine created to protect people from this awful virus as a abomination

Im not one for comments against individuals (in fact wished RT Davies well when he was recently away) however I cannot abide this man – I find everything he utters deeply unpleasant. Even the tory’s got rid of him as Sec. of State for Wales. No Mr Jones, I think it is you who is an abomination – your mindset belongs to the 1930’s / 40’s in a certain northern european country.
