YesCymru members have voted to adopt a new structure and constitution for the campaign group.

80% or 2717 voted in favour of the motion, and just 489 voted against.

The motion required a two-thirds majority. YesCymru also outlined the next steps:

  • YesCymru will move to be a company limited by guarantee with a new structure.
  • Members will be transferred from the current YesCymru to the new YesCymru Cyf.
  • The Articles of Association will be adopted.
  • The nomination period for the election of Directors will open within the next week, the election itself will be held by the end of January.

YesCymru said they would send out more information regarding the election for a new governing body early next week.

“Thank you for being part of the process, let’s build YesCymru’s future together,” they said.

Members were given until 5pm today to vote on the proposals on whether to adopt a new structure and constitution for the campaign group.

Errors meant that voting had to be suspended and voided on Friday, and voting was extended again on Saturday after “a further issue with the membership database came to light” including the revelation that membership had dropped as previous members had not been reminded to renew.

The changes to YesCymru’s structure come after a period of in-fighting within the movement which saw a vote of no confidence in the Central Committee, whose members collectively resigned from their posts shortly thereafter.

The Gweithgor working group was then set up from voluntary members of different YesCymru branches to look at the structure, finance, governance, procedures, groups and some wider policies such as social media.

YesCymru will now call an election for a Board of Directors under a new structure.

“Names and information about the candidates will be announced early in the new year and the election will be held mid-January, voting will be open for a few days,” they said before the vote.

“In the period between the announcement of candidates and the election we intend to organise hustings.”

Good. Get on with the day job now. Stop the toxic infighting. Pursue your partisan visions through Plaid, Lab4IndyWales, Undod, Gwlad, The Green Party, Melin Trafod, IWA or whatever suits. Keep YesCymru simple. Let it be the shop window for the movement.

About as poor a take as I’ve seen so far. Here’s mine. Following a period of turbulence in which members were bullied and villified by a self righteous partisan clique, 5x as many members turned up for the EGM as compared to the AGM and the vast majority voted for YesCymru to be a non-partisan campaign organisation to campaign to establish a democratic Welsh State. I’d have thought that would call for a period of self-reflection by those who lost this vote. But the self-righteous have a habit of failing to recognise their own faults.

Time to move on.

I’m glad of these reforms. Now we can focus our full attention on creating a prosperous more democratic independent Wales free of interfering idiocratic Westminster misrule..

84.7% in favour by my reckoning. That’s huge. Whichever argument won, a mandate of that scale is exactly what was needed. Now let’s get on with it.

YC need to focus on winnable issues now such as getting St Davids Day a National holiday. Well over 80 per cent favour this and its x party also with I guess all or almost all local council’s supporting it.

It’s a an issue that will attract the OAPs of Deeside, the elite of Cyncoed and ‘ Valley’s Mam ‘ as well as School kids of Semnybridge and the academics of Aber ( thats enough ecamplea ) but you get the point 😎

It will even unite such opposites of regular scriblers ‘ Finn and Grayham ‘ ? 😂

Yes Cymru must keep it simple. Concentrate on highlighting the many follies of the UK State and we’ll be on our way to decoupling from our Overlord. No need to get too introspective or obsessed with ideological debates. Westminster is slowly eating itself, so let us join them for a meal.
