Daily Mail brands Wales ‘England B’ after Kieffer Moore says he would ‘love to knock them out’
The Daily Mail has branded Wales ‘England B’ after Wales striker Kieffer Moore said that he would love to knock the team’s footballing rivals out of the competition.
The London-based newspaper made the claim saying that nine of Wales’ players had been born over the border, despite their Welsh ancestry and choosing to represent their nation on the football pitch.
There are 237 players at the World Cup who will be representing their nations who were born elsewhere, with Morocco having the most at 14, and Tunisia and Senegal having 12 with the bulk having been born in France.
Wales has 10 within their 26-man squad, with nine born in England and Adam Davies born in Germany.
“They proudly belted out the Welsh national anthem as they took part in the nation’s first World Cup game in 64 years,” the Daily Mail said.
“But nine players in the Wales squad who salvaged a draw against the United States were actually born across the border in England, leading them to be dubbed ‘England B’ by a cheeky few.”
The newspaper however pointed to comments by Wales striker Kieffer Moore which suggested that Wales did not consider themselves an ‘England B’ team at all.
“I can’t wait to knock them out, it would be amazing,” he said. “There will be no mixed loyalties.”
Wales will play Wales B in their final group game on Tuesday the 29th of November.

It’s a fair jibe and has been prevalent in recent years but of the T20 winning squad, only Stokes (NZ) and Jordan (Barbados) weren’t born in England, so not really true. Eoin Morgan is half-English. Kieffer Moore, I believe, qualifies as much to play for China as he does Wales. Of course, it’s completely his choice, but if I was a Welshman I’d wonder if these guys were representing what I was or after a ticket to playing international football. For the record, agree Daily Mail is garbage.
Imagine being such a spiteful, miserable balloon that rather than celebrating your team’s magnificent 6-2 victory, you instead unleash your hatred on your neighbours in this “Union of equals”.
I honestly can’t even be bothered to respond to them any more. They are utterly irrelevant.
Conveniently ignoring the fact they have had and do have Caribbean born players, a Portuguese born player, and recently failed to persuade Belgian Adnan Janusai, Norway’s Earling Haaland and Germany’s Jamal Musiala to join them. All were asked to turn out for England, and refused. But it is different when England do it, then it is normal and fair, and they are all of course English. They have a very long list of non England born players.
Agreed one of the past players was Michael Owen the only reason he can call himself English is that the hospital he was born in was on the English part of Chester but his parents lived on the Welsh side and he never lived in England when he played football and still lives in North Wales
They also went after Gareth Bale, Neco Williams and a number of other Wales players.
Needless to say, it seems they are very bitter and don’t handle rejection well.
As an English person I would totally agree that the London-based media can be brash, unreasonable, self-obsessed and totally hypocritical but they do not represent every English person.
Of the examples given, Bale – totally accept this, Neco Williams – please. I support a Championship club and thought Williams was dreadful whenever I’ve watched him live.
I personally wouldn’t want anybody to represent England who didn’t feel it was part of them and I’m sure Welsh supporters feel the same. It cheapens international football otherwise.
If you have a choice of 2 countries and you chose team A rather than team B, then A is your 1st choice. You are country A’s 1st team, not their second stringers
The viewing figures suggest more folks watched Wales play than England, so England is really Wales B…

I have a friend, English and probably my oldest friend, who say that you can’t be racist about the Welsh because they don’t give a damn. I think his actual word was much ruder than ‘damn.’
Who are ‘they’? You are generalising 60 million people based on a in article written by 1 journalist. Think about what you’re saying or try and get out more.
I am English, I don’t hate the Welsh, to the contrary. I’ve met some lovely Welsh people but I have also found hostility there for no reason, which I think stems from this parochial mindset that all English people are a reflection of their media, which just isn’t true.

Why should the country of your birth be the only factor in determining your nationality, particularly if your ancestry is from elsewhere? Pure nonsense.
Perhaps we should go back to the days when only people born in the country should be eligible to play for that country, which would mean a whole slew of people born, accidentally, in another country – to serving military, diplomats or even premature births – would be ineligible. Perhaps we should go even further – I happen to have just listened to a programme in which one of the participants was Joanna Scanlon – and send people who identify themselves as (in her case Welsh) a National of a country in which they were not born, to the Tower.
In my earlier post I forgot to give the example of Wally Barnes, sometime Welsh captain, who qualified for Wales, only by virtue of the fact that he was born on Brecon where his father was serving as a soldier.
