Ryan Reynolds plugs Welsh language movie translation and Wrexham AFC with Robbie Savage in hilarious new video

15 Nov 2021 2 minute read

Ryan Reynolds is definitely not promoting Wrexham AFC in a trailer for his new movie – in which he is seen wearing a Wrexham scarf, plugging sponsors Ifor Williams trailers, and discussing the Welsh language translation of his new Netflix movie Red Notice.

“I personally can’t stand those celebrities who take advantage of filming opportunities to plug their personal interests,” he says, before the camera cuts to show him wearing a Wrexham scarf and gloves and sitting in front of a giant Wrexham AFC crest.

“Thank you Ifor Williams trailer for putting our red notice trailer on our trailer,” he says before showing a screen displaying the Red Notice trailer being lugged around by the sponsor.

He then turns to vox pops of the film, including Wrexham players, the town’s Mayor, and former Welsh international Robbie Savage who declares in Welsh that the Rock and Gal Gadot are “fel rhechfeydd mewn pot jam.” (Like farts in a jam pot)

“And it will be subtitled in Welsh, for my friends in Wrexham,” Ryan Reynolds says.

The trailer also includes local Wrexham business Emz Cakes who has recreated Ryan Reynolds in cake form.

Netflix even took to Twitter to tweet in Welsh about the show, tagging in those who took part in its production.

The film Red Notice recorded the biggest opening day in Netflix history when it was released over the weekend.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have come up with numerous ways of featuring the Welsh language in the promotion of their films, Tv shows and Wrexham AFC itself.

In May they included a seemingly reluctant Welsh translator in video announcing that FX had commissioned two series’ on their purchase of Wrexham AFC.
